VAN (DİHA) - The Van Governorship named two container housing sites in Bahçesaray after the Kurdish scholars, Feqîyê Teyran and Ehmedê Xanî, yet written without Kurdish characters. The names were changed to Feki Teyran and Ahmed-i Hani.

BDP Van Central District Branch Chair Rafet Taş said this was an insult both to the Kurdish scholars and the Kurdish people. "The written names are proof of the ban on the Kurdish language. This is a great discrimination," said Taş.

The governorship had rejected the Van Municipality's demand to name a park as Feqîyê Teyran Park due to the Kurdish letters 'q', 'î' and 'ê'.
