YPG takes another strategic hill in west Kobanê
KOBANÊ (DİHA) - An operation which was initiated by the YPG-YPJ (People's / Women's Defense Units) fighters against ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham) gangs under the name of ‘retaliation for Kobanê martyrs’ on the western front of Kobanê is continuing since 22 July.
YPG fighters have liberated the Zagros hill from radical Islamist groups as part of the operation which has witnessed severe clashes on the western front of the Kobanê canton for the last 24 hours. According to a statement by YPG Press Office, 150 ISIS members were killed and 75 others were wounded in recent clashes during which YPG fighters also seized a number of military articles of the gang groups.
Following yesterday's clashes, YPG/YPJ forces took control of Geteş village and the strategically important Zagros hill and Berkil Keçelo area. During previous clashes, YPG had liberated the Çarıxli hill from ISIS gangs. Speaking about the recent operation and clashes in the region, Kobanê YPG/YPJ Command Council member Meysa Abdo had said the western line where clashes are becoming severer was one of the fronts difficult to liberate.
The Karkamıs Camp where the Turkish state is alleged to be providing ISIS gangs with military and logistic support is bordering the western line of the Kobanê canton, and gang members are said to be launching attacks from this camp area.
