Thousands see Deniz Fırat off to her birth place Çaldıran
VAN (DİHA) - The funeral of Kurdish Journalist Deniz Fırat (Leyla Yıldızhan), who lost her life in an attack of ISIS gangs carried out on Maxmur refugee camp on 8 August, was taken from Dursun Odabaşi Medicine Center and brought to her brith place Çaldıran district of Van.
The funeral of Kurdish Journalist Deniz Fırat (Leyla Yıldızhan), who lost her life in an attack of ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Sham) gangs carried out on Maxmur refugee camp on 8 August, was taken from Dursun Odabaşi Medicine Center by thousands of people and brought to her brith place Çaldıran district of Van. The coffin of Deniz Firat was decorated with the flags of PKK and KCK and posters of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan. Free press woman labourers and Peace Mothers Assembly activists shouldered the funeral up to vehicle here.
Apart from many journalist and her family, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Van MPs Özdal Üçer and Nazmi Gü and, Van Independent MP Kemal Aktaş, Van Metropolitan Municipality Co-mayors Bekir Kaya and Hatice Çoban, district co-mayors, representatives of non-governmental organizations, Peace Mothers Assembly activists, and executives of HDP and Party of Democratic Regions (DBP) were among the citizens in front of the hospital. The funeral of Deniz was met by thousands of people under the slogans of "Long live Leader Apo" and "Martyrs do not die" here. The funeral will be laid to rest in her village in Çaldıran
Deniz Fırat, basic source of information on the ground, passed away on Friday evening after pieces of a mortar shell fired by ISIS gangs hit her on the heart as she tried to do her job in a risky area. Fırat will be taken to her hometown Çaldıran district of Van where she will be laid to rest. Tens of thousands of people are expected to take part in her guneral ceremony in Van.
