Rojava cantons and ENKS sign agreement
DUHOK (DİHA) - After a week of meetings and negotiations between Kurdish political parties of West Kurdistan (Rojava) in Duhok city of South Kurdistan, the parties signed an agreement on how to rule Kurdish regions in Syria.
Kurdish parties in Rojava agreed in Duhok city of South Kurdistan on Wednesday to set aside their long-standing differences and cooperate militarily and politically in face of an Islamic State of Iraq and Sham (ISIS) gangs onslaught in their region. On October 14, both major councils of Rojava including the Kurdish National Council in Syria (ENKS) and the People’s Council of Western Kurdistan (TEV-DEM) started their meeting and negotiation in order to reach an agreement and unite in ruling Rojava.
On Wednesday October 22nd, both councils signed the agreement between both councils that consists of several points. “We both sides agreed on three points including, democratic administration, as well as identifying a political source and a joint military force for Syrian Kurdistan,” said member of the Secretary General of ENKS, Nasraddin Ibrahim.
TEV-DEM and Senior PYD Figure, Aldar Xalil said, “Our agreement with ENKS is on identifying the source of power in Rojava that will be distributed as following. 40% of the of the power will be for ENKS representatives and 40% will be for our council’s representatives.” About the other 20% remaining power positions, Xalil stated, “20% remaining will be for other party members that they will be chosen jointly by both councils.”
“The number of the members will consist of 30 persons that 12 of them will be from ENKS and 12 other members will be from our council. However, the other six remaining members will be jointly chosen between both councils and other political parties in Rojava,” added Xalil. He mentioned that ENKS will participate in the democratic administration cantons of Rojava and the name of the administration will remain the same as it is now.
Commenting on the formation of the joint military force in Rojava, Xalil said that when both councils return back to Rojava, a joint committee will be formed from both sides in order to negotiate with People’s Protections Unit (YPG) and the head of administration defense to form a joint force based on the result of the negotiation.
About the time set for the implementation of the agreement, Ibrahim pointed out, “a special committee will be formed from both councils that within the first two months, all the points of the agreement will be translated into actions,” and Xalil also emphasized that the agreement and its points will be implemented in two months.
